TOM TSANG RETURNS TO HELP SHAPE NEW COVENTRY BEARS

Everyone at the Coventry Bears is thrilled to welcome Tom Tsang back to the club.

Tom, who previously led the Bears as Professional Head Coach, is returning as a coaching consultant to lead an exciting new junior coaching programme as we continue to grow our youth section ahead of the 2026 season.

Over the past few years, our junior section has gone from strength to strength. This summer we’ll be running Under 10s, Under 12s, Under 13s and Under 15s teams — something everyone involved with the club is incredibly proud of. Seeing so many young players pulling on a Bears shirt each week is exactly what community rugby league is all about.

Now, we want to make sure we build on that growth the right way.

Tom will help us shape what we’re calling “The Bears Way” — a clear, positive approach to how we coach, support and develop our young players year after year. It’s about giving our volunteer coaches guidance and confidence, creating consistency across age groups, and making sure every child who joins the Bears improves, enjoys themselves and feels part of something special.

Tom brings fantastic experience from his time working in both academy and senior environments with the Huddersfield Giants and the London Broncos. But just as importantly, he understands community rugby league and what it takes to build something sustainable from the ground up.

In recent seasons, our junior teams have often had to travel long distances to find festivals, tournaments and fixtures. With Tom’s experience, we’re looking to strengthen our development pathway and create better opportunities for our young players closer to home, while still giving them chances to challenge themselves and grow.

Speaking about his return, Tom said:

“It’s brilliant to be back at Coventry Bears. The growth in the junior section is fantastic to see and there’s a real energy around the club. My aim is simple — help the coaches to support the players and build a clear pathway so kids can come through the age groups enjoying their rugby and feeling proud to represent the Bears.”

This next step isn’t just about performance — it’s about community, enjoyment and creating an environment where young players can make friends, build confidence and fall in love with the game.

The future of Coventry Bears is being built from the ground up — and it’s an exciting time to be part of it.
