COVENTRY BEARS JUNIORS SEEK CLUBS TO PLAY IN MCDONALDS TOURNAMENTS
BEARS JUNIORS SETTING UP SUMMER MCDONALDS TROPHY TOURNAMENTS
Coventry Bears Rugby League Club are looking to host a series of junior tournaments sponsored by Coventry McDonalds Restaurants during the 2026 summer season.
We are seeking a small number of clubs per date at each age group to attend and take part in friendly, competitive junior rugby league with trophies for the winners sponsored by McDonald’s Coventry a sponsor which has long been associated with our community development at the Bears.
Unfortunately at the Bears we have limited opportunities for our juniors due to geographical challenges in the sport so are seeking help from the rugby league national junior community. We are also open to travelling but this has proven unsustainable for our parents and children long term due to the geography of where we are in the UK. We hope to build this new initiative each year into something very special where clubs with similar challenges can assist each other and ensure children can have the opportunity to play the sport.
AGES
U10 Primary league
U12 Secondary league
U13 Secondary league
U15 Secondary league
4 TOURNAMENT DATES
Proposed dates we are seeking clubs to come to Coventry Mc Donald’s Development Tournaments:
1. Sunday 31st May tbc (Challenge Cup Weekend)
2. Saturday 13th June or Sunday 14th tbc
3. Saturday 27th June or Sunday 28th tbc
4. Sunday 5th July tbc (Magic Weekend)
These dates are intended as small, well-managed tournaments, designed to give young players regular game time while helping clubs develop sustainably.
If your club would be interested in attending one or more of these dates, or would like to discuss the format, please get in touch.
We are looking for like minded developing clubs to assist us in growing and developing our junior section which has some great developing players.
A QUALITY EXPERIENCE
Our priority is to deliver a high-quality, enjoyable, and competitive experience for young players. This tournament is designed to support player development and provide meaningful matches where clubs work together to achieve the best outcomes for everyone involved.
To ensure this, teams entering the tournament must be able to field established squads, particularly at secondary level where games will be played 13-a-side. We want to avoid situations where clubs arrive with very small numbers and rely heavily on borrowing players simply to fulfil festival fixtures, as this can lead to one-sided matches or a poor experience for the players and parents who have travelled.
BARBARIAN TEAMS WELCOME TO ASSIST PARTICIPATION
Clubs are encouraged to work together well in advance of the tournament to ensure squads are viable and that playing numbers are confirmed before the event. This helps us create a competitive, well-organised tournament format and prevents late withdrawals or difficulties on the day, especially for teams travelling significant distances.
This event is therefore not intended as an open “all-comers” tournament, but rather a quality-focused competition where prepared teams come together to provide the best possible rugby league experience for the players in our region. Barbarians sides are very welcome to apply to join the tournaments as this means several club numbers can be managed for 13 a side well in advance.
