Coventry’s Rugby League Legacy

Rugby league first came to Coventry in 1908, with the city fielding a club until the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. Sadly, the Great War brought an end to the sport’s early presence in the area. It wasn’t until 1998 that rugby league returned to the city with the founding of the Coventry Bears.

Over the past 28 years, the Bears have played a leading role in developing rugby league from grassroots to professional levels. The club has achieved significant success, winning numerous regional and national titles, and attracting players from across the globe. The Bears’ brand has become one of the most respected and recognisable in southern England’s rugby league community.
