JUNIOR FORMAT 2026

COVENTRY BEARS TEAMS

Please read the information below about how our junior rugby league programme will operate in 2026.

Teams

We will be running teams for:

  • Under 10s – Year 5

  • Under 12s – Year 7

  • Under 13s – Year 8

  • Under 15s – Year 10

Age groups are based on school year, although coaches may assess players to move up a year where appropriate.

Training

Teams will train from 6th May until 22nd July as part of a dedicated rugby league coaching programme created for the 2026 season.

Training times, maps, and Wednesday evening session details can be found on the main menu.

Coaching

Each age group will have a minimum of two volunteer coaches, many of whom are parents themselves.

In 2026, coaches will also be supported by Alan Robinson and Tom Tsang, who will help deliver “The Bears Way” throughout the club.

Participation & Fixtures

Teams take part in Midlands-based participation festivals, mainly in the West Midlands, with some events in the East Midlands.

These festivals focus on fun, development, and participation, with games usually played in a non-competitive 9-a-side format.

From Under 13s onwards, festivals become more competitive. We are working hard to organise additional fixtures for the Under 13 and Under 15 teams, including possible travel to other areas such as the North of England, London, Wales, and the South West.

Extra dates will be shared by coaches through each team’s WhatsApp group after the first training session on 6th May.

Please note that rugby league does not operate like rugby union, with regular local leagues and fixtures, so we ask parents to be understanding as we continue to create opportunities for players.

Registration

Parents can register children through the link on the main page or main menu.

The deadline for registration is after Session 2 on 13th May.

By this date, all players must be fully registered and paid in full (£65) for the summer programme.

The Bears Way

“The Bears Way” is our coaching philosophy and development programme, designed to make the club more exciting, enjoyable, and positive for players and parents.

You can read more on “The Bears Way” page on the main menu.
