We’re launching an exciting new opportunity for bands and musicians across Coventry and Warwickshire to have their music played on Coventry Bears match days and as part of our official podcast.
Local unsigned artists, from any genre, can now submit their songs to potentially be part of our 2020 season.
At every home game, we will play songs from two different local artists over the Butts Park Arena PA system. We will also play out every episode of our podcast with a song from a local act, allowing us to celebrate the creativity of our local community.
Not only that, there will also be opportunities for featured artists to attend the match to hear their song played in-stadium, be interviewed for both the podcast and over the PA, and be featured in the matchday programme.
The scheme is being run by Dave Musson, co-host of our official podcast Bear Necessities and himself a member of a local band.
Dave said: “I’m really excited to work with the Bears and offer this opportunities to bands and musicians in Coventry and Warwickshire to have their music heard at our matches and on the podcast - Bears fans love their music just as much as they love their rugby league, so it will hopefully bring in plenty of new fans for those artists we feature too. We’re really excited to champion the creativity that is all around our local community.
“Not only that, as we head towards Coventry being City of Culture in 2021, it would be amazing to shout about some of the fantastic art being made in the region at every single home match, and throughout the year on our podcast. The Bears are incredibly proud to be part of Coventry and to be the area’s only professional rugby league team - if we can help use our platform to give a bit more exposure to some of region’s musical talents, then that would be really satisfying.”
Submissions are now open to any bands/musicians/solo artists from Coventry and Warwickshire of any genre. To get involved, simply fill in this form with a link to the song you’d like to put forward and, if chosen, the club will contact you directly. The only requirement is that songs should feature clean lyrics - i.e. no swearing.
If a song is selected, it will be played over the PA system at a Coventry Bears home match during the 2020, and will play out one episode of our Bear Necessities podcast. Featured artists will be invited to attend the match at which their song will be played, where there will also be opportunities to be interviewed over the PA and for our podcast - and they will also be featured on the club’s social media channels.
