Bears Sign Peter Ryan

Tom Tsang commented:

Peter, a prop forward, is a relative newcomer to Rugby League having played his first match in his homeland Ireland just three years ago. Since then he has represented his Country in the Student RL world cup in Australia, where he impressed a lot of people, especially us here at the Bears, where we have a strong Irish link.

Peter has since moved to the Midlands to study for a masters degree at Coventry University where he is also on a sports scholarship and he has already had a number of eye-catching performances representing the university.

Peter was then invited to our trial date in October where he again showed what he is capable of - he is a very hard working player, very tough and loves the defensive side of the game. He is obviously still very inexperienced and as such he has a few areas he will need to work on and develop, but with the attitude he has shown and the level he is already at, we believe we have a real player on our hands.

Peter commented;

To sign for the Bears is a massive opportunity for me, considering I only played my first game of rugby league less than three years ago. Getting the chance to play in such a professional environment is a massive opportunity. I'm looking forward to proving myself and having the chance to play at a high level week in week out against players that have played all their lives and hope that my efforts help the Bears this year.  I want to earn my place in the squad, develop myself as a player both physically and in terms of rugby league awareness. I hope to be part of a squad that can bring the Bears to the next level
