Coventry Bears Sky Try Development Day a roaring success!

On Sunday 25th of June Coventry Bears hosted their first rugby league development day at the Butts Park Arena.

The event was to both raise awareness for the work the club does in the community and bring together children off all ages to sample some training and games and then stay on and watch the Bears in action in Kingstone Press League One.

Over 100 children participated and over 200 tickets were registered by parents and new friends and family who all enjoyed the event. Overall it was a momentous day for everyone involved.

There were also children from local Midlands rugby league clubs in attendance such as players, coaches and volunteers from North East Worcestershire Ravens and Telford Raiders. The Ravens in particular really embraced the event and added to its big success.

Coventry Bears CEO Alan Robinson commented;

"Today has been a great success, we have seen many new faces with children and their families who would not normally come along but have left with smiles on their faces, I'd like to thank everyone who has made the day possible and look forward to bringing more community clubs from the region together again to make it even bigger next season"

So far over the past 12 months the club has engaged over 2500 children in the city and surrounding areas in rugby league and this great work is also showing off the field at the Butts Park Arena with a Bears season high crowd attendance of 573 at Sunday's match versus Workington Town.

Unfortunately the Bears lost by only 1 point on the day but with a young squad and many more children due to start playing the sport more and more surely there is a bright future ahead for the club.

Next home match the Bears play North Wales Crusaders on Sunday 16th July at 3 pm.

Why not come and see some summer rugby league. It's a great afternoon out for all the family.
