Bears Launch Cub Club
Coventry Bears are delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new project which will allow primary school children to participate in rugby league outside of school hours.
The ‘Cub Club’ is a new initiative which is aimed at increasing participation of primary school children in rugby league. Set in convenient locations for the children who take part the Cub Club will be easily accessible to boys and girls and will give younger children an opportunity to enjoy fun rugby league based activities.
The Cub Club will be open to all Primary school year groups from reception to year 6.
Initially based at Holbrooks Primary school where already over 40 children have subscribed to the 1 hour a week programme. The Cub Club will start on Saturday 16th January at 9am for reception to year 3 and 10am for year 4 to year 6.
Coached by our community coaches participants will be not only be taught new physical movement skills but core values which apply not only in sport but in everyday life such as teamwork, respect and discipline.
Sessions are priced at £3 or an up front payment of £15 for a six week block with more clubs planned for other schools and venues throughout the city in coming weeks.
Speaking on the launch Community Manager Conor Kelly said; “The Cub Club is a key part of our development plans for the sport of rugby league within Coventry. We have seen that there is a need for more sporting activities for children within the area and we want to give children an opportunity to partake in the sport.”
“It is vital that we make the sport as enjoyable as possible so we can encourage young children to take it up. We have already had over 40 children sign up already for tomorrow's session and we will be launching even more sessions in the near future.”
