Another win sends Bears Juniors U13 team to the top of the league

On Sunday 19th June at the Xcel Centre in Coventry, Bears U13's played their first home game and second competitive game of the 2016 season. In a game full of big hits, smooth passing and lots of tries the rookie young bears convincingly beat Birmingham New Ravens by 15 tries to 1. During a very strong first half, the Birmingham side of mainly year 7’s buckled under the constant attacking pressure from the Junior Bears.  Under the captaincy of Jack, a lead of 10 tries to nil was quickly accumulated including 2 from Josh and 2 great tries from Sam and Tom running from one end of the pitch to the other to score.

In the second half Josh and Ryan then Jack and Ardal were leant to the Ravens in an attempt to make the game more fair. They all need a special thank you for this as it is hard to play against your own team mates. A 3 pass before scoring rule was also enforced to prevent the far stronger bears from just running through the Raven’s defence.  Although this did stem the flow of tries, Bears were still too strong in defence and deadly in attack, making the Ravens pay for any mistakes. In the last quarter Ravens finally managed to break the Bears defence down with our own Ardal scoring their only try following a great off load from our own Jack.

Overall it was a great team performance from the Bears making it 2 wins out of 2 for the campaign so far and they are now top the midlands junior league table with 4 points, two points ahead of the Telford Raiders and Nottingham Outlaws.

Congratulations needs to be given to the whole to team who look forward to extending their unbeaten run on the 2nd July where they face the return fixture against Telford Raiders. This will be a tough game with Telford wanting to seek revenge for last time.  Why not come and show your support. Kick-off is at 11am at the Xcel Centre and entrance is entirely free.

The Junior Bears are also looking for sponsorship so if you know anybody who can help please contact a member of the Coventry Bears team.
