BearFest Community Sports Camp
Coventry Bears are really excited to announce a summer of fun for youngsters in Coventry. BearFest is the name given to the programme of activity, which will be multisport and will take place on twelve separate days across the early part of the Summer holidays.
Bears in the Community, who run the successful community arm of Coventry Bears, have worked together with Coventry Youth Partnership to gain funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner West Midlands to offer youngsters physical activity and positive engagement during the holiday period starting from 22nd July.
This is part of a wider city wide project and information on all different types of activity (times/locations, etc) can be found at www.coventryyouthpartnership.org
Who is it for and how can you get involved?
Please note: New Location due to high demand.
BearFest is targeted at boys and girls age 8 – 16 years old and will be based at The Place, Coventry University Westwood Heath Sports Ground’s, just around the corner from the Xcel Leisure Centre.
The venue has been changed from the Xcel due to the high demand for the project and we are excited to be hosted by Coventry University on both their large astro pitch and grass pitches.
Address and Location:
The Place is situated on Westwood Heath Road, opposite St John the Baptist Church. For satnavs, we would recommend you use the church’s postcode – CV4 8GN.
Bears coaches will be delivering fun and active sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 22nd July until 16th August. Each day will begin at 10am with mixed tag rugby, then after a mid-morning break, youngsters will do fitness, stretching and ball skills, followed by a different multisport each afternoon including rounders, ultimate frisbee, football and dodgeball. The session will finish at 3pm and the best bit is that it will cost parents just £1 per day and is simple to sign up to.
The youngsters can attend just one session, or as many as they like so is the perfect way to keep them engaged during the holidays on an ad hoc basis. Things to note for parents: Youngsters will need a packed lunch and drinks to stay hydrated, the sessions will take place even in wet weather, all sessions will be outdoors so dress appropriately, parents are expected to stay for up to the first half an hour to ensure the youngsters settle in well. Finally, consistent poor behaviour or negative/dangerous engagement will result in parents having to collect the child so parents must remain contactable all day.
How to sign up?
Please use this link to fill in the sign up form for the session you want your child to attend. Please sign up, if you can, the day before the session, so the coaches have an idea of numbers in advance to help with planning. If you cannot sign up beforehand, parents will be asked to sign up on arrival on a mobile phone device before leaving their child.
All coaches are DBS checked and qualified in sports coaching, several of the coaches are Coventry Bears First Team Players and Coaching staff. First aid will be available from the coaches and within the facility. Toilet and changing facilities are available also. We will have access to an indoor space if weather is very poor and the session is cancelled, so that children can wait inside until collected. If you have any specific queries, please contact Debbie.firstname.lastname@example.org in the first instance.
